Il Confessionale drew headlines when one of the locals watching the movie recognized the church that was used for many scenes. The movie was filmed in an actual church, San Vincenzo, in a small village outside of Rome.

The wedding scene (including the part where the priest fucks the bride), and likely the congregation scenes and the first sexual encounter between the priest and Daniela, were filmed inside the church.

The pastor of San Vincenzo, Father Paolo Ferrini, told reporters that he was told they were filming a wedding. This was true ... they just left out a few details....

Services at the church were suspended pending reconsecration and all ceremonies performed since the filming of the movie were invalidated until the Bishop of Marsi, Lucio Renna, reblessed them.
